Take for instance the “Blue Opal Reef” necklace by Julia Watt (pg 30). Julia strung lamp worked beads with an AB finish that evoke a calm ocean surface, and used beaded fringes that look like sea plants draped between glistening pebbles. The “Aloha” (below left) bracelet by Cher Lash (pg 12) shows how to stitch seed beads and daggers into lovely reflections of island leis, and Lynn Davy’s herringbone “Starfish” (below right) earrings on page 14 are an elegant re-creation of a favorite sea creature.
Plus, this issue has a special polymer project, excerpted from Ronna Sarvas Weltman’s new book, Ancient Modern, teaching you how to create textures and forms that surely look like they could swim away. The correct URL for the Vintaj filigree components in the May/June 2009 issue's "Layers" necklace on page 41 should read: www.vintaj.com. We apologize for any confusion. --Ed
